Slumdog Millionaire - Writing a character analysis

Do you consider Salim to be a flat or round character?

I would say that Salim is a round characther. If you watch the film closely, you will understand that there is a struggle within Salim, torned between good and evil. Even though he knows what's right in his heart, the criminal environment offers the possibility to make easy bucks. With an eye on his backgound from the slum, I think it is very important for Salim to assert himself and live the luxurious life he never had as a kid. Still, what he thinks of his acts and himself is wholly another matter. Salim seems to have guilty consience and I don't think he likes himself for doing what he does. In about the middle of the film, there is a scene where Jamal sees Salim praying to Allah for relief of his sins. Salim knows that what he does is not right. Towards the end of the film, Salim realizes that he have to change the way he lives, and to make up for all of his bad acts, he sacrifices himself. He changes due to the conflicts he deals with in the film, and that is what characterizes a round character.
